Les esprits chagrins avaient formul\u00e9 plusieurs reproches sur l\u2019\u00e9dition 2018, en particulier concernant la sonorisation &#8211; point faible r\u00e9current du week-end, li\u00e9e \u00e0 cette salle de concert immense. Les promoteurs nous avaient promis des merveilles pour ce mill\u00e9sime 2019, nous ne nous sommes pas faits prier pour aller v\u00e9rifier tout cel\u00e0 sur place&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><strong><em>Avant la chronique, voici notre video report express avec des extraits de tous les concerts :<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GgvMiSvvlFQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE DEVIL &amp; THE ALMIGHTY BLUES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On rentre donc pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans la salle pour constater qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;y a plus d\u00e9sormais de seconde sc\u00e8ne annexe, mais bel et bien une \u00ab\u00a0salle dans la salle\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e9norme. Ce fameux dispositif cens\u00e9 am\u00e9liorer le son des concerts nous inqui\u00e9tait, or il s&rsquo;av\u00e8re parfaitement incorpor\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;Arena, y proposant un espace d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux concerts, qui laisse largement la place \u00e0 installer \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 le market, le merch officiel, une zone de food trucks, une zone pour les gamers, tatouages, etc&#8230; Tout ce qu&rsquo;il faut ! Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit, l&rsquo;honneur d&rsquo;en essuyer les pl\u00e2tres en revient \u00e0 <strong>The Devil &amp; The Almighty Blues.<\/strong> Le quintette norv\u00e9gien a largement intensifi\u00e9 son activit\u00e9 sc\u00e9nique ces derniers mois, notamment en support d&rsquo;un nouveau disque qui nous a beaucoup plu. Tandis que l&rsquo;on retrouve g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement en ouverture des festivals des groupes de moindre importance pour un d\u00e9marrage progressif, le Desertfest l\u00e2che les cheveaux d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but. Quelques secondes suffisent \u00e0 valider le dispositif de sonorisation : le son (et \u00e7a ne se d\u00e9mentira pas de tout le week end) est ample, puissant et pr\u00e9cis. Et on n&rsquo;est pas les seuls \u00e0 en prendre plein la poire : d\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res minutes, la salle appara\u00eet d\u00e9j\u00e0 presque remplie ! Plusieurs milliers de stoner-heads se sont donn\u00e9 rendez-vous aujourd&rsquo;hui (la journ\u00e9e du festival qui aura compt\u00e9 la plus importante affluence). Revenons \u00e0 nos scandinaves, qui d\u00e9roulent un set solide, ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 \u00e0 la perfection par des musiciens en parfaite osmose. Leur heavy blues, puissant, m\u00e9lodique et inspir\u00e9, convainc les aficionados autant que ceux qui ne les connaissaient pas. On se prend encore une fois \u00e0 esp\u00e9rer que parfois ils appuient un peu sur l&rsquo;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur, mais cette profusion de mid-tempos chaleureux (ce Andersen a une voix \u00e0 donner marqu\u00e9 l\u2019histoire de notre style de pr\u00e9dilection, voire m\u00eame par-del\u00e0 ses fronti\u00e8res, se radine sur sc\u00e8ne avec deux acolytes pour envoyer sa mixture \u00e9pic\u00e9e \u00e0 base de hurlements et rythmiques tapageuses : on en aura pour notre pognon. Le guitariste Mike Pygmie, d\u00e9j\u00e0 observ\u00e9 sur sc\u00e8ne avec le p\u00e8re Garcia, conna\u00eetra quelques difficult\u00e9s en d\u00e9but de set, mais le meneur de revue ayant de la bouteille, de blanc il n\u2019y eut point et il faut le souligner car certaines formations allaient peiner \u00e0 combler le vide entre leurs titres durant ces trois jours ! Nick a d\u00e9roul\u00e9 sur la Main Stage tel un vrai pro en n\u2019omettant pas d\u2019aller piocher un \u201cGreen Machine\u201d de vous savez, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 avec de grosses couilles dans un esprit proche de l\u2019urgence punk qui sied si bien au r\u00e9pertoire de Mondo Generator (qui ne renie pas ses origines en se pointant affubl\u00e9 d\u2019un shirt de Negative Approach et balance des titres genre \u00ab All System Go \u00bb pied au plancher). Les projections interlopes si\u00e9ront par ailleurs merveilleusement \u00e0 ce show hargneux. Les petites fouines que nous sommes seront finalement d\u00e9\u00e7ues de ce final sur le titre de Kyuss, car nous avions bien lu (en parcourant le setlist trainant entre un pied de micro et un p\u00e9dalier) que \u00ab\u00a0Millionaire\u00a0\u00bb cl\u00f4turerait le set, mais le public, qui n\u2019avait pas cette information, ne partagera au final pas notre frustration. Un r\u00e9el plaisir pour les oreilles de recroiser la route de ce mythe de la sc\u00e8ne et de se taper des titres du calibre de \u00ab The Last Train \u00bb en live. M\u00eame s\u2019il arrivait t\u00f4t dans la journ\u00e9e, ce set rentre-dedans allait rompre un peu avec la couleur psych\u00e9d\u00e9lique de ce premier jour.<\/p>\n<p><a On d\u00e9couvre alors le dispositif, pour le moins atypique : les artistes sont install\u00e9s sur le pont sup\u00e9rieur, en plein air, avec une petite zone sur le reste du pont, \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la sc\u00e8ne, pour le public, mais surtout l&rsquo;enti\u00e8ret\u00e9 du beergarten au pied du bateau comme public ! Plusieurs centaines de personnes assises pour manger leur repas, boire une bi\u00e8re \u00e0 la cool ou simplement assister au concert en contrebas. La configuration est \u00e9trange car distante depuis le quai, mais techniquement la qualit\u00e9 de la sono \u00e9tait au niveau des attentes. Surr\u00e9aliste&#8230; Et sur le bateau, donc, seul sur la sc\u00e8ne avec sa guitare acoustique, Wino. En d\u00e9bardeur malgr\u00e9 une temp\u00e9rature plut\u00f4t fra\u00eeche (la vague de froid sur l&rsquo;Europe n&rsquo;a pas \u00e9pargn\u00e9 Berlin, m\u00eame si la pluie fut globalement absente durant tout le week-end), le charismatique frontman de tant de formations ador\u00e9es de vos serviteurs encha\u00eene les chansons, sans chichi, avec le sourire, comme s&rsquo;il \u00e9tait sur la petit sc\u00e8ne du bar du coin. C\u00f4t\u00e9 compos, il tape largement dans son r\u00e9pertoire acoustique, en particulier issu de \u00ab\u00a0Adrift\u00a0\u00bb, et y glisse quelques reprises ou titres co-\u00e9crits avec Conny Ochs. On se laisse prendre assez facilement, on pense \u00e0 des vieux Dylan avec une voix chaude et profonde, sur des titres g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement sombres et m\u00e9lancoliques (mention sp\u00e9ciale au poignant \u00ab\u00a0Song at the Bottom of the Bottle\u00a0\u00bb). Tant pis pour ceux qui avaient pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 la perfide Albion car nous avons eu droit \u00e0 une performance magistrale ! Chauds-patate, les Suisses ont sorti l\u2019incroyable \u201cSphere\u201d (que l\u2019on devrait logiquement retrouver dans les tops de l\u2019ann\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs reprises lorsque chaque m\u00e9dia, voire internaute \u00e9clair\u00e9, listera ses coups de c\u0153ur) puis tourn\u00e9 par ici, malheureusement sans leur co-headliner Samsara Blues Experiment qui avait d\u00fb d\u00e9clarer forfait en raison de probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9, avant de tourner encore le temps de quelques dates avec les v\u00e9t\u00e9rans de Colour Haze. Ayant 50 minutes \u00e0 dispo, ces vieux briscards rompus \u00e0 l\u2019exercice sc\u00e9nique ont opt\u00e9 pour une formule concise : 5 titres dont 2 hits et 3 extraits de leur r\u00e9cente sortie, dont le complexe \u00ab Mass \u00bb (sans le guest notoire pr\u00e9sent sur l\u2019album), mais avec la mani\u00e8re. Ce set, soutenu par le travail de leurs techniciens au son, aux projections psych\u00e9d\u00e9liques, \u00e0 l\u2019envoi de vapeur et aux lights ainsi que le son impeccable de la sono, fera partie des meilleurs moments de cette manifestation. Nous avons pu remarquer que le public s\u2019\u00e9tait mass\u00e9 jusqu\u2019au fond de la vaste salle pour assister \u00e0 ce show qui nous permit d\u2019appr\u00e9hender sur sc\u00e8ne \u00ab Spirals \u00bb, \u00ab Prism \u00bb ainsi que \u00ab Mass \u00bb en plus de leur hit intergalactique \u00ab Through The Desert \u00bb ! Ces &#8211; tr\u00e8s &#8211; charmantes dames ont pratiqu\u00e9 leur punk vintage lorgnant sur le garage avec fureur et haute ma\u00eetrise (elles impressionnaient aussi quelques quidams pour des raisons \u00e9trang\u00e8re \u00e0 leur son). Le public \u00e9tait donc bien entass\u00e9 dans la salle (m\u00eame si certains ont assist\u00e9 plus longtemps que nous \u00e0 la prestation jou\u00e9e en ext\u00e9rieur) et le combo a envoy\u00e9 un set ripolin\u00e9 sur \u00ab Uluru Rock \u00bb interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 avec brio. Flanqu\u00e9s sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de leur batteur, en avant sur la sc\u00e8ne avec son kit simple, le guitariste et le bassiste ont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 de profil. Cette configuration, habituelle pour la formation californienne, est aussi \u00e9prouv\u00e9e et qu\u2019efficace, mais, m\u00eame avec des lights correctes, le rendu visuel \u00e9tait en de\u00e7\u00e0 de ce que les Suisses avaient propos\u00e9 quelques heures plus t\u00f4t. Le groupe casse la monotonie instrumentale du set par quelques titres chant\u00e9s efficaces, dont un \u00ab\u00a0Electric Flame\u00a0\u00bb qui commence avec un micro inaudible&#8230; mais aussi un excellent \u00ab\u00a0Gifted by the Wind\u00a0\u00bb en conclusion. Le son \u00e9tait soign\u00e9 aux petits oignons (on s\u2019y est tr\u00e8s vite habitu\u00e9 en fait), mais, au final, le set de bonne facture des Ricains ne tenait pas la comparaison avec d\u2019autres performances d\u00e9j\u00e0 observ\u00e9es par le pass\u00e9 o\u00f9 nous les avions connus plus g\u00e9n\u00e9reux sc\u00e9niquement.<\/p>\n<p><a Mascis, avec son pote David Sweetapple, le quartette qui compte des musiciens d&rsquo;autres combos, vivote depuis un peu plus de 10 ans au fil des rares disponibilit\u00e9s laiss\u00e9es par leurs groupes respectifs. Mais les plan\u00e8tes \u00e9taient align\u00e9es en ce mois de mai 2019 et Witch d\u00e9barque en Europe pour une poign\u00e9e de dates. Point important : un warm-up gig secret (groupes inconnus jusqu&rsquo;au jour J) \u00e9tait organis\u00e9 la veille du Desertfest, et le headliner de la soir\u00e9e \u00e9tait&#8230; Witch ! Ce que nous en ont dit nos amis qui y ont assist\u00e9 (vos serviteurs sont arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 Berlin le jour du festival&#8230;) nous a mis l&rsquo;eau \u00e0 la bouche. Et il ne faut pas longtemps pour r\u00e9aliser que nos souhaits vont \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9s : malgr\u00e9 finalement une exp\u00e9rience sc\u00e9nique limit\u00e9e, le groupe est en place, solide. Le CV cumul\u00e9 de chaque musicien suffit \u00e0 l&rsquo;expliquer : sur sc\u00e8ne, \u00e7a d\u00e9roule. Le groupe ce soir nous propose un best of de ses deux albums \u00e0 moiti\u00e9-moiti\u00e9, pour une heure de concert qui d\u00e9file sans temps mort. Le heavy doom hors du temps du groupe trouve son public dans une assistance mass\u00e9e et heureuse. On retiendra une interpr\u00e9tation endiabl\u00e9e de \u00ab\u00a0Rip Van Winkle\u00a0\u00bb, le nerveux \u00ab\u00a0Mutated\u00a0\u00bb et une cl\u00f4ture de toute beaut\u00e9 sur le somptueux \u00ab\u00a0Seer\u00a0\u00bb. sourire. En prenant son instrument et en contemplant l\u2019Arena pleine \u00e0 craquer, Charles Michael Parks Jr fait part de sa surprise <em>\u00ab\u00a0Wow, vous \u00eates nombreux\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>\u2026 Car oui, le groupe est tr\u00e8s attendu ; l\u2019ascension de All Them Witches ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es a port\u00e9 ses fruits, et l\u2019on retrouve le (d\u00e9sormais) trio dans la partie haute de nombreux festivals. Pendant une grosse heure et quart, ils vont s\u2019employer, par le menu, \u00e0 justifier de cette notori\u00e9t\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s une intro sur le vieux \u00ab Funeral for a Drunken Bird \u00bb, le groupe commence \u00e0 montrer un visage live s\u00e9duisant, avec par exemple \u00ab 3-5-7 \u00bb et son final enthousiasmant, ou un peu plus tard le virevoltant \u00ab When God Comes Back \u00bb. Le combo est carr\u00e9, c\u2019est le moins que l\u2019on puisse dire, et ne p\u00e2tit pas franchement du d\u00e9part de son clavi\u00e9riste : tout est l\u00e0 et bien l\u00e0 en format trio. Robby Staebler \u00e0 la batterie frappe comme une mule, le regard hargneux, quasiment \u00ab habit\u00e9 \u00bb et m\u00eame semblant pris de spasmes sur les derniers titres, on le croirait en transe ; impressionnant. Les soli de Mc Leod sont limpides, inspir\u00e9s et efficaces. Niveau mise en place, le groupe est juste hallucinant, et l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 est au rendez-vous. C\u00f4t\u00e9 set list, le focus est mis sur le dernier opus ATW, bien s\u00fbr, et le set s\u2019en retrouve moins nerveux, avec des moments un peu \u00ab plats \u00bb ici ou l\u00e0, admettons-le. Le petit sentiment de folie et de relief des productions pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes manque un peu parfois. Mais le show d\u00e9roule sans jamais le moindre ennui, et on ne peut que reconna\u00eetre la qualit\u00e9 musicale de ce groupe, malgr\u00e9 une set list m\u00e9langeant valeurs s\u00fbres et Dieux du Stoner, prendra place avec une dizaine de minutes de retard pour cl\u00f4turer une premi\u00e8re journ\u00e9e d\u00e9j\u00e0 m\u00e9morable (une de celles dont on se souviendra). Pas franchement \u00e9poustouflants visuellement, ces allemands ont pour eux une ma\u00eetrise \u00e9norme de leur art qui confine \u00e0 la perfection ; en bref c\u2019est le batteur perpendiculaire au public \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du clavier et les deux autres mecs sur les bords qui ont balanc\u00e9 leurs titres sans investir la sc\u00e8ne de mani\u00e8re outranci\u00e8re. On a toujours un peu l\u2019impression qu\u2019on va s\u2019emmerder quand ils d\u00e9barquent sur sc\u00e8ne (apr\u00e8s un souci lors du soundcheck) avec leurs d\u00e9gaines de profs de musique et on a toujours le sourire aux l\u00e8vres quand on ressort d\u2019un de leurs shows. C\u2019est un peu \u00e7a la recette magique des munichois au final : une interpr\u00e9tation g\u00e9n\u00e9reuse et hautement ma\u00eetris\u00e9e qui finit par nous habiter quand bien m\u00eame sans les animations en fond de sc\u00e8ne on aurait pu se faire carr\u00e9ment chier, vue l\u2019habitation sc\u00e9nique dont ces musiciens font preuve lors de leurs repr\u00e9sentations. Le public a go\u00fbt\u00e9 \u00e0 ce show voluptueux qui l\u2019emmena au milieu de la nuit (avec du temps bonus pour un rappel m\u00e9morable).<\/p>\n<p><a
