Le soleil tape dur d\u00e8s qu\u2019il monte dans le ciel et c\u2019est avec appr\u00e9hension que nous nous dirigeons vers la Valley pour entamer ce jour. La tente qui h\u00e9berge la sc\u00e8ne sera-t-elle aussi remplie que le jour pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent \u00e0 cause des temp\u00e9ratures trop \u00e9lev\u00e9es\u00a0? Allons, hardis les mecs\u00a0! Alors oui c\u2019est brutal, mais le quartet Suisse n\u2019aura pas manqu\u00e9 d\u2019attention pour son public en commen\u00e7ant avec une distribution de croissants. On sent bien que pour eux, c&rsquo;est la chance de leur vie d\u2019\u00eatre convi\u00e9 sur une sc\u00e8ne si reconnue et le chanteur Louis d\u2019expliquer : <em>\u00ab\u00a0on joue devant des personnes diff\u00e9rentes dans des petites salles toute l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e et si j\u2019ai bien compris ici c\u2019est\u00a0toutes ces m\u00eames personnes r\u00e9unies\u2026\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em> Sauts sur sc\u00e8ne, roulades \u00e9pileptiques, ce dernier va jusqu\u2019\u00e0 finir un morceau en slammant jusqu&rsquo;au milieu de la fosse. Si le style n&rsquo;est pas toujours des plus Desert-Rock-compatible cette ouverture pr\u00e9dit une journ\u00e9e riche en \u00e9motions comme l\u2019annoncent les c\u00e2lins faits au public et le jet de CD dans la fosse en fin de set. style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>FIEND<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sous une Valley \u00e0 la jauge revenue \u00e0 la normale, on se fraye encore une place sans trop se bousculer. Fiend &#8211; qui assure rien moins que la premi\u00e8re partie de Tool sur sa tourn\u00e9e europ\u00e9enne &#8211; vient en bon professionnel, sans effet de manche, ass\u00e9ner un mid tempo Doom \u00e0 souhait. Le quartet ouvre sur le titre des plus \u00e0 propos \u00ab Morning Star \u00bb et illustre la difficult\u00e9 de classer la programmation du jour. Heitham Al-Sayed le chanteur guitariste, sous ses airs de bon p\u00e8re de famille, conjugue son chant avec une formation d\u2019assassins brutaux qui feraient mine de n\u2019y pas toucher, et poursuit avec \u00ab St Helen\u2019s \u00bb. En bons Serial Killers, les gars ne sont pas d\u00e9monstratifs mais ils sont d\u2019une pr\u00e9cision redoutable. La touche de brutalit\u00e9 du groupe revient toujours aux tours de chant du bassiste Nicolas qui \u00e9panche ses hurlements rageux au micro, en compl\u00e9ment de l&rsquo;avalanche de coups de Renaud derri\u00e8re ses f\u00fbts. La d\u00e9contraction apparente de ce dernier donne d\u2019ailleurs l&rsquo;impression d\u2019un jeu presque swing dans l\u2019attitude. De l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie mais aussi une forme particuli\u00e8re de beaut\u00e9 transpara\u00eet dans la musique de Fiend. Le sous-accordage des grattes offre une belle profondeur de son et pourtant un aspect Heavy dans les aigus. Ce set bien trop court se termine sur \u201cVessels\u201d et on se prend \u00e0 penser qu\u2019il est incompr\u00e9hensible que la Valley n\u2019ait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 plus charg\u00e9e. Alors que les festivaliers se dispersent nous esp\u00e9rons qu\u2019ils iront porter le nom de Fiend bien au-del\u00e0 des fronti\u00e8res du Hellfest.<\/p>\n<p><a Le set \u00e9nergique &#8211; et pas redondant pour un kopeck &#8211; de WHVN (pour les intimes) aura blast\u00e9 durant les trente minutes de jeu accord\u00e9e \u00e0 la formation am\u00e9ricaine qui, malgr\u00e9 son allure de bande de profs de g\u00e9o, s\u2019av\u00e8re une sensation sc\u00e9nique efficace. Les hurlements du frontman ainsi que l\u2019h\u00e9ritage d\u2019entertainer-n\u00e9 de nos amis d\u2019outre-Atlantique ont mis un beau boulet dans une Valley dont la programmation du jour Les plans a\u00e9riens sont entrecoup\u00e9s par des attaques punchy bien senties. La frontwoman de la bande, Ryanne, est exceptionnelle : elle capte l\u2019auditeur en variant de chants type m\u00e9lop\u00e9es (ah la Hollande&#8230;) \u00e0 des envol\u00e9es lyriques la faisant passer pour la version f\u00e9minine du gars derri\u00e8re le micro de Type-O-Negative. Le chanteur hurleur accroch\u00e9 \u00e0 son micro prend d\u00e9sormais la pose de face et s\u2019adresse au public, il clame <em>\u201cWe are Manowar and we are late\u201d<\/em> tournant en d\u00e9rision les headliners qui ont d\u00e9command\u00e9 leur concert. voir SUMAC sur les planches, le groupe \u00e9tant pour le moins rare sur les sc\u00e8nes europ\u00e9ennes, et a fortiori fran\u00e7aises. Ce petit \u00e9v\u00e9nement en soi r\u00e9jouit mollement une Valley qui d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment aujourd&rsquo;hui peine \u00e0 faire le plein. Gageons que les fans de post-rock auront pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 aller se faire cramer sous le soleil incandescent devant la main stage (!)&#8230; Les pr\u00e9sents sont en revanche bien motiv\u00e9s \u00e0 la perspective de voir le p\u00e8re Turner \u00e9ructer et faire rugir sa six-cordes. Pour qui n&rsquo;a pas vu le frontman depuis longtemps, imaginez-vous une sorte de post-gourou \u00e9nerv\u00e9 \u00e0 la pilosit\u00e9 grisonnante d\u00e9brid\u00e9e, growlant comme un damn\u00e9 et headbanguant comme un d\u00e9rat\u00e9 sur ses morceaux compl\u00e8tement d\u00e9structur\u00e9s. En gros. Le bonhomme lance calmement le r\u00e9cent \u00ab\u00a0Attis&rsquo; Blade\u00a0\u00bb en intro puis d\u00e9roule son set de 40 minutes avec rage et tension, emmenant son post-metal nerveux sur des terrains noise parfois. L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e convainc un public plut\u00f4t conciliant mais un peu apathique (il fait chauuuuud&#8230; et on vient de se cogner Mantar !).<\/p>\n<p><a de sortir respirer l\u2019air loin de la Valley, histoire de voir \u00e0 quoi le monde ressemble hors du sanctuaire. Et le moins qu\u2019on puisse dire c\u2019est que ce monde l\u00e0 ne va pas chez le coiffeur. Il n\u2019y a qu\u2019\u00e0 voir Deadland Ritual, trio de stars 70\u2019s\/80\u2019s\u00a0 (le batteur des Guns, le guitariste de Billy Idol et le Saint Esprit du doom &#8211; Geezer Butler himself) accompagn\u00e9 du chanteur d\u2019Apocalyptica. Un groupe bigarr\u00e9 au rendu on ne peut plus clich\u00e9, versant dans le heavy rock hollywoodien \u00e0 tendance \u00ab rencontre en cure de d\u00e9sintox \u00bb. Entre quelques extraits de leur album, les trois poseurs et le bassiste le plus g\u00e9nial de la cr\u00e9ation reprennent quelques classiques, dont 3 Sabbath avec plus ou MOINS de r\u00e9ussite. C\u2019est finalement \u00ab Neon Nights \u00bb de la p\u00e9riode Dio qui passe le mieux. Mais il passera toujours moins bien que l\u2019empressement avec lequel nous avons pass\u00e9 notre chemin. S\u00fbr que leurs anecdotes de vieux routards du rock valent plus que leur musique surann\u00e9e 90.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>EAGLES OF DEATH METAL<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La perspective de rester devant les main stage apr\u00e8s ce g\u00eanant set de Deadland Ritual, d&rsquo;affronter encore le soleil (alors que l&rsquo;accueillante et ombrag\u00e9e Valley nous tend les bras), tout cela pour aller assister au milieu de plusieurs milliers de personnes au concert des Eagles of Death Metal, ne nous para\u00eet plus une aussi bonne id\u00e9e, tout d&rsquo;un coup&#8230; Pourtant, le groupe est li\u00e9 \u00e0 tant de musiciens ou de musiques de la sc\u00e8ne desert rock, qu&rsquo;il \u00e9tait difficile de faire l&rsquo;impasse (et soyons honn\u00eates : la disgr\u00e2ce de son frontman et ses propos lamentables suite au drame du Bataclan l&rsquo;ont fait tomber tr\u00e8s bas dans notre estime). Int\u00e8gre et d\u00e9vou\u00e9, votre serviteur s&rsquo;en est donc all\u00e9 affronter les \u00e9l\u00e9ments avec abn\u00e9gation. Un peu rikiki sous un logo colossal en fond de sc\u00e8ne (les main stages proposent des \u00e9crans \u00e9normes faisant office de backdrop vituels derri\u00e8re les groupes), nos quatre lascars (Jesse Hughes et qui-que-soient ses trois mercenaires du jour) d\u00e9roulent avec enthousiasme un set rythm\u00e9 (\u00e9videmment) et sans grosse surprise. Le public de la main stage semble gentiment kiffer cette musique d&rsquo;ap\u00e9ritif sans prise de t\u00eate, d&rsquo;o\u00f9 \u00e9mergent \u00e9videmment \u00ab\u00a0I Only Want You\u00a0\u00bb en intro, un groovy \u00ab\u00a0Cherry Cola\u00a0\u00bb ou une suave reprise de Bowie (\u00ab\u00a0Moonage Daydream\u00a0\u00bb, que le groupe reprend souvent en live, sans grosse valeur ajout\u00e9e malheureusement). Hop, sit\u00f4t pass\u00e9, sit\u00f4t oubli\u00e9 (si ce n&rsquo;\u00e9tait ce satan\u00e9 coup de soleil).<\/p>\n<p><a Johan L\u00e5ngvist, chanteur originel (mais \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re) est de retour, et malgr\u00e9 son look \u00e0 vendre des bateaux de plaisance, le bonhomme a gard\u00e9 de superbes restes. Affut\u00e9 et en voix (m\u00eame s\u2019il ne va bien s\u00fbr plus chercher les aigus d\u2019antan), L\u00e5ngvist prend l\u2019audience en main et si la set list n\u2019offre aucune surprise (elle est sensiblement l\u00e0 m\u00eame que sur toutes leurs dates r\u00e9centes, format festival), l\u2019ex\u00e9cution parfaite et la jovialit\u00e9 ambiante font de ce concert un moment g\u00e9n\u00e9reux dont on sort ravi. Et puis brailler \u00ab Bewitched \u00bb, \u00ab Demon\u2019s Gate \u00bb ou \u00ab Solitude \u00bb entre copains reste une activit\u00e9 qui r\u00e9jouirait quiconque de normalement Alors m\u00eame si dans le Screamo on n\u2019entend pas toujours tout, il faut bien avouer que la langue se pr\u00eate parfaitement tant aux passages criards qu&rsquo;aux longs moments atmosph\u00e9riques pur post rock. Les nippons ont r\u00e9uni sous la Valley la fine fleur des fans de post metal \u00e0 en juger par la livr\u00e9e des festivaliers pr\u00e9sents. Ils leurs offrent une musique charg\u00e9e d&rsquo;\u00e9motions et de force. Les mouchoirs sont de sortie et beaucoup de festivaliers laissent couler leurs larmes, emport\u00e9s par la profondeur \u00e9motionnelle de la musique offerte cette ann\u00e9e, bien plus pr\u00e9gnante que lors de leur dernier passage. L\u2019Attitude sur sc\u00e8ne de Envy est \u00e9nergique et sans exub\u00e9rance ne sombrant jamais dans le plaintif et apportant justement sa touche Screamo toujours juste \u00e0 temps apr\u00e8s des passages de chant o\u00f9 l&rsquo;interpr\u00e8te discute presque avec son public, gestuelle a\u00e9rienne et habit\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;appui. Avouons-le, Envy n\u2019est pas de notre bord mais il m\u00e9rite la palme d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation dans la cat\u00e9gorie Post, et en tous les cas le prix du concert-surprise du week-end, l\u2019un Shoegaze \u00e9volu\u00e9 ? Post bidule ? Nous laisserons les experts en parler mieux que nous. Cependant l&rsquo;attraction pour le groupe est r\u00e9elle, plus on s&rsquo;enfonce dans la fosse plus l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re semble prenante. Les festivaliers s\u2019immergent totalement dans l&rsquo;univers du groupe sous des spots \u00e0 virer \u00e9pileptique. Alors que pour cl\u00f4turer cette seconde journ\u00e9e nous reprenons les sentiers qui m\u00e8nent hors de l&rsquo;enfer il est impossible de ne pas constater que Cult of Luna a marqu\u00e9 les esprits et les c\u0153urs.
