Difficile de cerner cet ODNI (Objet Discographique Non-Identifi\u00e9) \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re \u00e9coute. Les choses ne s&rsquo;arrangent d&rsquo;ailleurs pas apr\u00e8s la quinzi\u00e8me.<br \/>\nL&rsquo;album s&rsquo;ouvre sur un riff bien gras soutenu par une batterie en partie repass\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;envers qui introduit le morceau suivant, du m\u00eame acabit et sur lequel Goss essaye de nous effrayer avec ces hululements de fant\u00f4me. La fin d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e8re en bruitages et c&rsquo;est l\u00e0 que les choses commencent \u00e0 se corser s\u00e9rieusement. &lsquo;Inner Child Abuse&rsquo; et &lsquo;The Smoking Man Returns&rsquo; forment un ensemble indissociable de collage de larsens, bruitages \u00e9lectroniques, claviers lugubres et accords de basse minimalistes, le tout soutenu par des roulements de batterie chaotiques dont Zach Hill s&rsquo;est fait le sp\u00e9cialiste. Alors qu&rsquo;on commen\u00e7ait \u00e0 \u00eatre vraiment d\u00e9sorient\u00e9, &lsquo;Rock Weird (Weird Rock)&rsquo; nous permet de retrouver nos rep\u00e8res malgr\u00e9 un vocodeur et des sons de synth\u00e9 digne d&rsquo;un casio offert \u00e0 votre petit neveu pour sa No\u00ebl. Et puis l\u00e0, surprise ! L&rsquo;album se termine sur trois excellents morceaux \u00e0 la structure classique (si on fait abstraction de &lsquo;I Got a Brand New Egg Layin&rsquo; Machine&rsquo; o\u00f9 Goon Moon repart dans ses d\u00e9lires bruitistes) pour lesquels les bidouillages se font beaucoup plus discrets et la batterie plus disciplin\u00e9e. &lsquo;Mashed&rsquo;, avec sa guitare et sa basse acoustique, s\u00e9duit par son c\u00f4t\u00e9 entra\u00eenant tandis que sur &lsquo;No Umbrellas&rsquo;, Goss nous fait enfin profiter de sa voix si chaleureuse tout en d\u00e9livrant un riff bien enlev\u00e9 que ne renierait pas Qotsa. &lsquo;Apartment 31&rsquo; cl\u00f4ture l&rsquo;ensemble de fa\u00e7on m\u00e9lancolique pour nous laisser sur un sentiment mitig\u00e9.<br \/>\nCet album est certainement ce que Goss a fait de moins abordable et il faut une belle dose d&rsquo;ouverture d&rsquo;esprit pour l&rsquo;appr\u00e9cier \u00e0 sa juste valeur. Si malgr\u00e9 tout vous n&rsquo;\u00eates pas r\u00e9fractaires aux morceaux les plus bizarres de Earthlings?
