Suite \u00e0 une r\u00e9novation men\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin du si\u00e8cle dernier, le lieu est d\u00e9sormais consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;h\u00e9bergement de spectacles culturels, dont le festival fait d\u00e9sormais partie, tous les ans. L&rsquo;\u00e9glise de belle taille est sobrement d\u00e9cor\u00e9e, mais ses attributs architecturaux en font un lieu remarquable&#8230; sans parler du son, qui tournoie et englobe tous les volumes !<br \/>\nLa programmation de cette ann\u00e9e nous a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9clencher ce p\u00e9riple, et nous voil\u00e0 donc arpenter les abords du festival par 0\u00b0C, une ambiance pour le moins atypique !<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_6399.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17790\" src=\"https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_6399.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_6399.jpg 667w, https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_6399-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Le festival commence fort avec une valeur s\u00fbre de notre sc\u00e8ne musicale depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es : Villagers of Ioannina City (VIC) qui inaugure la nouvelle sc\u00e8ne. Nouveaut\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e : le festival a mis en place un partenariat avec un centre culturel imm\u00e9diatement adjacent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise, qui propose une salle de spectacle (et donc concerts) de tr\u00e8s belle taille, avec une hauteur de plafond \u00e9poustouflante. Pouvant accueillir plusieurs centaines de spectateurs, le \u00ab Dome \u00bb (bien mal surnomm\u00e9, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9es les dimensions toute parall\u00e9l\u00e9pip\u00e9diques du lieu) nous impressionne rapidement par la qualit\u00e9 du son propos\u00e9, qui sert particuli\u00e8rement bien la formation grecque pr\u00e9sente sur les planches. Le concert de VIC a beau \u00eatre sans surprise pour les habitu\u00e9s, il constitue encore une fois un excellent moment : toujours clairement emmen\u00e9 par le charismatique Alex Karametis (chant impeccable, jeu de guitare sans fioriture mais efficace), le groupe est visiblement rod\u00e9 et le set solide. La musique rock \u00e0 tendance folklorique et aux atours psyche ind\u00e9niables fait mouche, \u00e0 force de mid tempi efficaces, propices aux envol\u00e9es instrumentales toujours transcendantes. Une entr\u00e9e en mati\u00e8re parfaite !<\/p>\n<div class=\"wc-gallery\"><div id='gallery-1' data-gutter-width='5' data-columns='4' class='gallery wc-gallery-captions-onhover gallery-link-file \u00e0 se produire sur la sc\u00e8ne The Chapel, c&rsquo;est \u00e0 dire dans l\u2019\u00e9glise abritant le festival, devant le ch\u0153ur \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e du transept. A des ann\u00e9es lumi\u00e8res de nos pr\u00e9occupations musicales, le tant\u00f4t trio tant\u00f4t quatuor f\u00e9minin a livr\u00e9 le show &#8211; fort &#8211; attendu m\u00eame s\u2019il n\u2019a pas fait honneur aux traditions norv\u00e9giennes en ne boutant pas le feu \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise dans laquelle se d\u00e9roulait ces deux jours de festivit\u00e9s pour public averti (c\u2019est excusable vu qu\u2019il s\u2019agissait d\u2019un \u00e9difice protestant \u00e0 la base). Ce happening macabre empreint de satanisme a fait carton plein avec des costumes moyen\u00e2geux puis juste des strings, du faux sang, de la basse \u00e0 l\u2019archet, des incantations blasph\u00e9matoires et du black metal basique vocif\u00e9r\u00e9 dans les aigus : tout le monde en a pris plein la gueule, ce qui \u00e9tait un peu le but du truc.<\/p>\n<div Consacr\u00e9 aux formations norv\u00e9giennes tout le week-end, le lieu est exigu au possible, avec une petite sc\u00e8ne mise en place tout au bout du bar. C\u2019est \u00e0 2 m\u00e8tres de la sc\u00e8ne que nous parvenons \u00e0 nous faufiler au peu pr\u00e8s, n\u2019entrapercevant que les scalps des musiciens de Bong Voyage ! Les conditions spartiates ne nous emp\u00eachent pas de go\u00fbter avec plaisir aux riffs du quintette (pas facile de caler tout ce beau monde sur une si petite sc\u00e8ne) scandinave, qui d\u00e9roule un set de gros stoner avec une fougue communicative. Tant qu\u2019\u00e0 \u00eatre \u00ab aveugles \u00bb, on se pose dans un petit recoin calme du bar, pinte, bancs et tables en bois, o\u00f9 un haut parleur a \u00e9t\u00e9 judicieusement plac\u00e9 pour go\u00fbter dans des conditions parfaites aux riffs efficaces et groovy de ce groupe sans pr\u00e9tention mais enthousiasmant.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">AIMING FOR ENRIKE<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Aiming For Enrike est le deuxi\u00e8me formation de la journ\u00e9e \u00e0 se produire sous terre (premier pour nous), dans les fondations, sur la sc\u00e8ne The Crypt (pas de Prix Nobel de l\u2019originalit\u00e9 pour ce sobriquet sur ce coup pour l\u2019orga &#8211; m\u00eame s\u2019ils pourraient aller le chercher \u00e0 pieds). Litt\u00e9ralement sous-sol de l&rsquo;\u00e9glise, la crypte est acessible via un petit escalier en colima\u00e7on, et propose certes une belle surface d&rsquo;accueil, mais malheureusement une visibilit\u00e9 tr\u00e8s r\u00e9duite sur les groupes (la sc\u00e8ne est plac\u00e9e entre deux \u00e9normes poteaux de 2m de c\u00f4t\u00e9, si bien que seules quelques dizaines de personnes peuvent se targuer de voir un peu les musiciens \u00e9voluer &#8211; pour les autres, c&rsquo;est en aveugle, voire sur les nombreux fauteuils dispos\u00e9s un peu partout). Le tandem d\u2019Oslo, articul\u00e9 autour d\u2019une batterie et d\u2019une guitare d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e \u00e0 grands renforts d\u2019effets, a fait le taf dans le style instrumental et a\u00e9rien. Ce programme ambiant, planant et psych\u00e9d\u00e9lique d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 par un duo de mecs au look de profs de musique a enchant\u00e9 ceux qui s\u2019\u00e9taient entass\u00e9s dans cet espace \u00e0 la capacit\u00e9 tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9e. Pour autant, le trio est \u00e0 l\u2019aise sur les planches, \u00e0 la fois investi dans la prestation et l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation sc\u00e9nique de ses chansons, en particulier Bartosz Janik, le guitariste faisant preuve d\u2019une belle \u00e9nergie. Le chant est port\u00e9 alternativement par les trois musiciens, qui parviennent bien \u00e0 retranscrire la richesse de leur spectre musical. Une large part du public semble d\u00e9couvrir leur musique, aux atours doom, sludge ou encore prog, et tr\u00e8s vite tout le monde est conquis par les perc\u00e9es m\u00e9lodiques du set, qui ne sacrifie jamais \u00e0 la puissance des riffs. Baign\u00e9 d\u2019un light show impeccable qui tire bien profit de l\u2019architecture du lieu, le set du trio polonais se termine trop t\u00f4t au go\u00fbt du public, qui en aurait bien repris un un chevauchement entre deux concerts nous force \u00e0 un sacrifice (notre duo de z\u00e9l\u00e9s reporters de l\u2019extr\u00eame devant donc se scinder en deux pour l\u2019occasion) pour ne pas rater le d\u00e9but du set de Black Rainbows. Il faut dire que les prestations r\u00e9centes du trio italien nous laissent esp\u00e9rer un gros set de heavy psych. Peut-\u00eatre un peu \u00e9cras\u00e9s par la grandeur (litt\u00e9rale) des lieux, les musiciens mettent un peu de temps \u00e0 rentrer dans leur set. Le light show n\u2019aide pas : basique en d\u00e9but de concert, il peine \u00e0 stimuler l\u2019auditoire. Mais au bout de quelques chansons, on y est, pas de doute, on les a retrouv\u00e9s, en forme. Les nombreux soli de Gabriele tournoient dans les volumes impressionnants de l\u2019\u00e9glise et envo\u00fbtent presque plus qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019accoutum\u00e9e, rendant particuli\u00e8rement honneur aux titres les plus mid-tempo de leur r\u00e9pertoire. C\u00f4t\u00e9 rythmique, les gaillards sont bien au rendez-vous, Edoardo en particulier abattant des lignes de basse bien massives, headbanguant en continu derri\u00e8re son voile de cheveux. Le light show aussi, plus dynamique, vient mieux servir le rageur \u00ab\u00a0Grindstone\u00a0\u00bb, le classique \u00ab The Hunter \u00bb ou encore leur habituelle reprise de \u00ab Black to Comm\u00a0\u00bb du MC5. On a eu un peu peur au d\u00e9but, mais au final on a eu droit \u00e0 encore un excellent set des italiens, d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment dans un bel \u00e9tat de forme ces derniers temps.<\/p>\n<div Rel\u00e9gu\u00e9s \u00e0 des sc\u00e8nes miniatures dans des festivals peu (re)connaissants, le l\u00e9gendaire trio californien prend la sc\u00e8ne avec son assurance et son bagout habituels\u2026 Non, on d\u00e9conne, ils sont juste mont\u00e9s sur sc\u00e8ne presque sans un regard vers le public, entamant leur set par une jam qui se structure au bout de quelques minutes, sans jamais pourtant ne retranscrire la sensation d\u2019\u00e9couter une \u00ab\u00a0vraie\u00a0\u00bb chanson, mais plut\u00f4t une s\u00e9quence d\u2019impro entre amis \u2013 ce qui finalement est exactement le cas ici. Cette section rythmique formidable, probablement la meilleure qu\u2019ait connue le groupe, est pour vos serviteurs l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment le plus int\u00e9ressant du concert (bien plus que les j\u00e9r\u00e9miades guitaristiques space-surf rock de Gary Arce, quasi immobile, concentr\u00e9 sur son interpr\u00e9tation. Le light show d\u00e9plorable (spots rouges fixes, puis spots bleus fixes, puis spots violets\u2026. Bref, vous voyez le genre) n\u2019aide pas la partie \u00ab\u00a0spectacle\u00a0\u00bb du set, qui se retrouve cantonn\u00e9 \u00e0 sa production instrumentale, toujours plaisante, mais qui manque de Furie furieuse il y eut avec les Danois bourrins dont le grand bassiste a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 \u00e0 ses homologues dans la place que la basse \u00e7a se joue \u00e0 la force de la nuque. Larguant sa guitare le temps d\u2019un morceau &#8211; comme \u00e0 Clisson &#8211; le frontman, guitariste et chanteur de la formation, a harangu\u00e9 la foule vigoureusement. \u00c7a a blast\u00e9 sa maman avec LLNN qui a mobilis\u00e9 toute sa hargne pour envoyer dans les cordes le public du fest avec comme point d\u2019orgue les incroyables coups de boutoir de \u00ab Parallels \u00bb tir\u00e9 de l\u2019album <em>Deads<\/em>. Au passage, on notera que c\u2019\u00e9tait pas trop la f\u00eate du pogo, du slam, des murs de la mort et autres pitreries durant ces deux journ\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019exception d\u2019un set brutal le samedi sur lequel on reviendra dans le report idoine. N\u2019emp\u00eache que m\u00eame avec un public plut\u00f4t statique, le quatuor synth\u00e9-guitare-chant-basse-batterie a constitu\u00e9 une des grosses sensations de ce premier jour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">THE ADMIRAL SIR CLOUDESLEY SHOVELL<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7281-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17836\" src=\"https:\/\/desert-rock.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7281-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>En descendant un peu avant l\u2019heure du d\u00e9but du set de The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell (on reprend sa respiration) on parvient \u00e0 se faufiler au premier rang, parmi les rares donc qui pourront avoir un \u00ab contact visuel \u00bb avec le groupe. Le trio \u00e0 la carri\u00e8re chaotique et aux tourn\u00e9es sporadiques d\u00e9\u00e7oit rarement sur sc\u00e8ne, et le constat se v\u00e9rifie ce soir. Les plus-tr\u00e8s-jeunes anglais (une bonne quinzaine d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es de \u00ab\u00a0carri\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb) ont us\u00e9 un bon nombre de clubs et sc\u00e8nes en tous genres, et c\u2019est sans prise de t\u00eate qu\u2019ils d\u00e9boulent ce soir, sans fioritures \u2013 \u00e0 l\u2019image de Johnny Gorilla qui branche direct sa Gibson SG dans sa t\u00eate d\u2019ampli Marshall, comme \u00e0 la maison, sans p\u00e9dales d\u2019effets ou autres artifices&#8230; C\u00f4t\u00e9 attitude on est bien, et c\u00f4t\u00e9 interpr\u00e9tation on est pas mal non plus : les titres d\u00e9boulent les uns entre les autres, entrecoup\u00e9s de vannes entre musiciens ou avec le public, l\u2019auto-d\u00e9rision chevill\u00e9e au corps, avec cet humour so-british. Musicalement imaginez une sorte de Black Sabbath meets MC5, avec ce go\u00fbt du riff \u00e9pais, de la m\u00e9lodie, m\u00eal\u00e8 \u00e0 une attitude presque punk, le tout baign\u00e9 par un son garage juste poussi\u00e9reux comme il faut. Le trio est g\u00e9n\u00e9reux et donne la banane \u00e0 tout le monde, headbanging et poings lev\u00e9s au ciel se disputant dans les premiers rangs. Un des cartons surprise de la journ\u00e9e. sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Invit\u00e9 en derni\u00e8re minute suite au d\u00e9sistement de Elephant Tree et Shaman Elephant, c\u2019est pourtant avec circonspection que l\u2019on attend la mont\u00e9e sur sc\u00e8ne de Witchcraft. Magnus Pelander ayant fait le vide depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es dans son line up, et ayant propos\u00e9 un disque quasiment solo assez insens\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment sous l\u2019\u00e9tiquette du groupe, chaque nouvelle prestation suscite autant la curiosit\u00e9 que la d\u00e9fiance. Une chose est s\u00fbre : en montant sur la petite sc\u00e8ne de l\u2019autel de l\u2019\u00e9glise, Pelander a le sourire. Toujours en format trio d\u00e9sormais Witchcraft entame son set sous les meilleurs auspices, \u00e0 l\u2019image de ce light show int\u00e9ressant, mettant autant en valeur l\u2019architecture de l\u2019\u00e9glise que le groupe. Alors forc\u00e9ment, l\u2019ancienne version de Witchcraft nous manque toujours un peu, avec son artillerie \u00e0 3 guitares et une basse (!!) pour des joutes \u00e9piques et puissantes&#8230; mais il semble qu\u2019il faille se faire une raison d\u00e9sormais, cette p\u00e9riode est termin\u00e9e, et c\u2019est sous sa forme simplifi\u00e9e et plus \u00ab d\u00e9pouill\u00e9e \u00bb que nous devons apprendre \u00e0 appr\u00e9cier les compos du groupe. C\u2019est ce que nous faisons sans nous faire prier, du coup, et de ce c\u00f4t\u00e9 il y a quand m\u00eame mati\u00e8re \u00e0 se faire plaisir, avec une s\u00e9lection en mode best of de ses concerts habituels : tous les \u00ab\u00a0hits\u00a0\u00bb habituels sont l\u00e0, \u00ab\u00a0No Angel or Demon\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Witchcraft\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Wooden Cross\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Queen of Bees\u00a0\u00bb&#8230; Pas de surprise, si ce n&rsquo;est une sorte e d\u00e9saveu du dernier album, dont aucun titre n&rsquo;est jou\u00e9 ? Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit, Pelander garde la banane pendant tout le set, et son interpr\u00e9tation est sans faille : avec un jeu de guitare gracieux et efficace (d\u2019aucuns capteront quelques r\u00e9miniscences Iommi-ennes ici ou l\u00e0 dans son doigt\u00e9\u2026 la cause n\u2019est pas perdue !) il tient l\u2019essentiel de la baraque, bien aid\u00e9 par un bin\u00f4me rythmique qui compense son absence d&rsquo;allant sc\u00e9nique par un jeu de qualit\u00e9. Au final, on aura pris un vrai plaisir \u00e0 assister \u00e0 ce set, satisfaisant en tous points, qui ent\u00e9rine si besoin \u00e9tait le nouveau \u00ab\u00a0format\u00a0\u00bb de
