\nDans un sud des US bouillant comme ses mar\u00e9cages en plein c\u0153ur du mois d\u2019Aout, on ne chiffre plus le nombres de formations rock excitantes, de la sc\u00e8ne NOLA jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la l\u00e9gion de combos Texans, pour qui les guitares et les influences de nuques rouges font parti de l\u2019ADN au m\u00eame titre que les grandes lamp\u00e9es de bourbon. Enfonc\u00e9s dans les clich\u00e9s du coin, qui ne sont finalement que leur quotidien, ces dizaines de \u00ab stoner bands \u00bb font rutiler leur rock groovy \u00e9cras\u00e9 de soleil. Et ces derniers temps, lorsque l\u2019on parle groove, c\u2019est bien \u00e0 Wo Fat qu\u2019il faut se r\u00e9f\u00e9rer car c\u2019est peu dire que le trio de Dallas a le deep south coll\u00e9 jusque dans le stetson de Kent Stump, bretteur\/chanteur de la bande. Apr\u00e8s trois opus \u00e0 haute teneur en psych\u00e9d\u00e9lisme (The Gathering Dark\/2007 ; Psychedelaut\/2009 et Noche De Chupacabra\/2011) r\u00e9cemment r\u00e9\u00e9dit\u00e9s en vinyle par Nasoni Records, le combo a franchi un cap avec la publication de Black Code en 2011 chez Small Stone Records. Le mariage entre le trio Texan et l\u2019hyperactif label de D\u00e9troit apparait aujourd\u2019hui comme une \u00e9vidence : Wo Fat s\u2019est mis \u00e0 composer des hits sans perdre une once de ce groove qui est sa marque de fabrique. Les envol\u00e9s de guitares de Stump n\u2019ont aucune raison de s\u2019inqui\u00e9ter de la tenue de la rythmique, tant la paire Wilson\/Walter tient la route. Sans perdre de temps, apr\u00e8s un split avec Egypt paru sur le label Fran\u00e7ais Totem Cat Records et apr\u00e8s avoir enfin r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 venir jouer en Europe (une dizaine de dates en compagnie d\u2019Abrahma ainsi que le Roadburn en 2013), le combo s\u2019enferme dans son propre studio de Dallas et enregistre The Conjuring, nouvelle \u00e9tape discographique d\u2019un groupe d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment en mouvement.<\/p>\n

Dans la continuit\u00e9 de The Black Code, Wo Fat prend soin de caresser le stonehead dans le sens du poil et revient sans perdre une once d\u2019efficacit\u00e9. The Conjuring garde cette aura unique, fait tourner le groove jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la transe, offrant \u00e0 Stump une tribune de choix pour d\u00e9rouler des m\u00e9lop\u00e9es de guitares, quelque part entre Earthless et du Southern Rock pur jus. Si les pr\u00e9occupations de l\u2019album \u2013 \u00e0 l\u2019instar de sa pochette \u2013 sont plus sombres, le saint groove est intact et quelques pi\u00e8ces maitresses viendront compl\u00e9ter la set list d\u00e9j\u00e0 aiguis\u00e9e du combo (\u00ab The Conjuring \u00bb, \u00ab Beggar\u2019s Bargain \u00bb). Le trio conclut comme par tradition sa galette avec une \u00e9pique pi\u00e8ce de 17 minutes, \u00ab Dreamwalker \u00bb et impose dans la continuit\u00e9 de sa discographie sa lente mue en un parfait m\u00e9lange d\u2019h\u00e9ritage southern rock et de pr\u00e9occupation fuzz\u00e9es. Peut \u00eatre un poil moins imm\u00e9diat que The Black Code, surement plus pessimiste aussi, The Conjuring est une cinqui\u00e8me \u00e9tape importante dans le voyage propos\u00e9 par cette formation qui commence clairement \u00e0 compter.<\/p>\n

Le point vinyle : Edit\u00e9 en LP en m\u00eame temps qu\u2019en CD (une vraie \u00e9volution du ce cot\u00e9 chez Small Stone), en version 180g translucid Orange (500 exemplaires, as usual), l\u2019objet est magnifique. Il ne manque plus qu\u2019une carte de t\u00e9l\u00e9chargement, comme \u00e0 chaque fois avec Small Stone, voire un gatefold pour \u00eatre au top.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
