On peut prendre le probl\u00e8me dans tous les sens, ce disque est, et restera, b\u00e2tard. Pas clair dans l’intention (sortie \u00ab\u00a0entre deux\u00a0\u00bb ?… Sortie chez Kozmik \/ Artifactz alors que le groupe \u00e9tait jusqu’ici chez Ripple ?…) , pas clair dans la destination (vinyl only ?… EP ou v\u00e9ritable quatri\u00e8me LP ?), ce Psychoriffadelia<\/em> aurait pourtant d\u00fb (pu ?) mettre toutes les cartes de son c\u00f4t\u00e9 : Geezer, \u00e0 coups d’albums aboutis et de prestations sc\u00e9niques \u00e9bouriffantes, est sur la pente ascendante depuis quelques ann\u00e9es. Clairement on attendait l’album de la cons\u00e9cration. Et on se retrouve avec… ce truc un peu difforme d’\u00e0 peine plus d’une demi-heure, pour 5 morceaux.<\/p>\n

Le trio a voulu co\u00fbte que co\u00fbte graver sur sillons ces instants pass\u00e9s en studio l’\u00e9t\u00e9 dernier, o\u00f9 il aurait interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 ces titres en conditions live, avec un batteur vacataire apparemment. La promesse est s\u00e9duisante : on s’imagine le groupe en format jam band d\u00e9brid\u00e9… Et finalement, l’album souffle le chaud et le froid. Et il commence mal, avec cette reprise convenue du sempiternel \u00ab\u00a0Hair of the Dog\u00a0\u00bb de Nazareth, d\u00e9j\u00e0 rebattue et us\u00e9e par Guns N’Roses en son temps. Autant pr\u00e9venir : titre le moins int\u00e9ressant de l’album. Plus classique des productions du groupe, le gras et groovy \u00ab\u00a0Stressknots\u00a0\u00bb nous remet gentiment sur les rails de l’espoir et nous m\u00e8ne gentiment, enfin, \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0Psychoriffadelia\u00a0\u00bb, la chanson-titre, qui apporte tout ce qu’on pouvait esp\u00e9rer d’une s\u00e9ance de jam par un power trio comme Geezer : \u00e7a commence par un lancinant groove basse-batterie sur lequel Pat Harrington vient faire couler quelques riffs et soli bien sentis, pour au final un full instru \u00e9pique qui r\u00e9chauffe. Le titre n’est pas parfait, mais on aimera croire que le groupe nous a sorti une prise live sans overdubs, et on privil\u00e9giera donc (volontiers) dans cette hypoth\u00e8se une d\u00e9marche musicale louable plut\u00f4t qu’un titre mieux structur\u00e9 mais d\u00e9pourvu d’\u00e2me. Le ramollo \u00ab\u00a0Red Hook\u00a0\u00bb ensuite fait couler son space rock over-psyche sur 6 minutes agr\u00e9ables mais un peu redondantes… Et on arrive \u00e0 l’autre titre cl\u00e9, le prot\u00e9iforme \u00ab\u00a0Dirty Penny\u00a0\u00bb de presque un quart d’heure, avec sur son premier gros tiers une compo Geezer-ienne tr\u00e8s classique et bien punchy, qui d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e8re \u00e0 mi-morceau en un nouveau morceau complet, succession de jams sans queues ni t\u00eates qui suscite chez votre serviteur la m\u00eame servile adh\u00e9sion que sur \u00ab\u00a0Psychoriffadelia\u00a0\u00bb, pour les m\u00eames raisons. Impros, soli, prises de risque… On y est ! Sauf que c’est d\u00e9j\u00e0 fini.<\/p>\n

Bref, sur une grosse demi-heure, Geezer effleure plusieurs fois le sublime absolu, dans un registre o\u00f9 on ne l’attendait pas forc\u00e9ment. Malheureusement il larve sa production de plans bouche-trous qui ne sont pas de son niveau. Mais en m\u00eame temps ce n’est pas un vrai album… Ou bien si ?? Bref, Geezer est confusant dans le fond et la forme ; on a autant ador\u00e9 Pychoriffadelia<\/em> qu’il ne nous a d\u00e9\u00e7u. On attend donc la suite, et on continuera d’\u00e9couter ce disque en le consid\u00e9rant comme une parenth\u00e8se.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
