Le trio, pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant vraisemblablement battre le fer tant qu\u2019il \u00e9tait chaud, s\u2019est mis rapidement et intensivement \u00e0 la t\u00e2che pour donner un successeur \u00e0 <em>Lusus Naturae<\/em>, leur pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent et premier effort, paru lui aussi chez Rise Above, la maison h\u00f4te parfaite pour leur hard rock doomeux vintage typique, tendance occult.<\/p>\n<p>En tous les cas, le premier constat est rapidement fait\u00a0: le groupe n\u2019a pas beaucoup fait \u00e9voluer sa formule. Toujours fondamentalement baign\u00e9 d\u2019influences doom old school (Pentagram, les premiers Cathedral, St Vitus,\u2026), Beastmaker y apporte un son de guitare plus vert, plus moderne et plus heavy. Pas d\u2019anachronisme, toutefois\u00a0: la production remarquable de l\u2019album ne vient jamais pervertir l\u2019ambiance des morceaux ou leur d\u00e9f\u00e9rence vis-\u00e0-vis de leurs a\u00een\u00e9s. Plus que le plagiat, c\u2019est le respect permanent pour leurs a\u00een\u00e9s qui baigne cette galette. Du coup, il y a mati\u00e8re \u00e0 se r\u00e9galer avec les larges rasades de riffs lancinants et de lignes vocales rampantes, sans que l\u2019on ne soit jamais ennuy\u00e9 par des tempi trop lents ou patauds. Perp\u00e9tuellement sur le fil du rasoir, le trio joue sa partition \u00e0 la perfection, ciselant des compos impeccables, efficaces, et ne se perdant jamais en route (10 morceaux pour environ 40 minutes\u00a0: on est pile poil dans le format r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel du genre). Plus remarquable encore, aucun rat\u00e9, morceau bouche-trou ou d\u00e9chet\u00a0: tout fonctionne. Bon, l\u2019ensemble est un peu mastoc n\u00e9anmoins, assez homog\u00e8ne, mais on ne peut pas d\u00e9cemment reprocher au groupe sa coh\u00e9rence formelle\u2026 En cons\u00e9quence, peu de titres se distinguent vraiment du lot, m\u00eame si on orientera l\u2019auditeur curieux sur l\u2019\u00e9pique morceau-titre, le catchy \u00ab\u00a0Sick Sick Demon\u00a0\u00bb, le tr\u00e8s Uncle Acid \u00ab\u00a0Psychic Visions\u00a0\u00bb ou encore l\u2019ent\u00eatant \u00ab\u00a0Heaven To Hell\u00a0\u00bb\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A vouloir faire trop vite, Beastmaker est pass\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de confondre vitesse et pr\u00e9cipitation. Heureusement,<em> Inside The Skull<\/em> est exempt de reproches majeurs, et confirme le bien que l\u2019on pensait de Beastmaker. Le groupe nous ressert une lamp\u00e9e de la m\u00eame cuv\u00e9e et \u00e7a fonctionne toujours\u2026 mais jusqu\u2019\u00e0 quand\u00a0? Le manque de vari\u00e9t\u00e9 dans la discographie d\u2019un groupe \u00e9tait chose commune dans le paysage musical il y a quatre ou cinq d\u00e9cennies de cela, mais de nos jours c\u2019est une autre histoire.
