Le leader et unique membre de <strong>The Howling Void<\/strong> vient de livrer son nouvel opus sobrement intitul\u00e9 <em>The darkness at the edge of dawn<\/em>. Avec ce sixi\u00e8me album, le Texan reste dans la lign\u00e9e de <em>The Triumph of Ruin<\/em>, paru en 2016. On se retrouve dans un doom tr\u00e8s nuanc\u00e9, qui s\u2019\u00e9carte du concept originel beaucoup plus sombre et fun\u00e9raire lorsque l\u2019artiste a d\u00e9marr\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019aube des ann\u00e9es 2000.<\/p>\n<p>On commence l\u2019\u00e9coute de <em>The darkness at the edge of dawn<\/em> au creux de la vague avec\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Distant Shores\u00a0\u00bb, une intro planante o\u00f9 Ryan Wilson d\u00e9voile quelques bribes de sa voix, lointaine, irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re, comme un souffle sorti d\u2019outre-tombe. Tout au long de l\u2019album, le chanteur s\u2019abstient de growler et conserve son timbre clair, plein de z\u00e9nitude.<\/p>\n<p>Le Texan se l\u00e2che un peu plus au niveau des vocalises avec\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0A seed on stone\u00a0\u00bb, la deuxi\u00e8me piste, compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente. On flirte ici avec le m\u00e9tal symphonique, avec toujours ces riffs lancinants et ravageurs. On regrette juste la double p\u00e9dale trop pr\u00e9sente en fin de morceau qui d\u00e9nature un peu l\u2019outro.<\/p>\n<p>Le titre \u00e9ponyme, troisi\u00e8me morceau de la galette, r\u00e9sume parfaitement l\u2019ambiance que souhaite d\u00e9velopper The Howling Void. D\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 un gros son bourr\u00e9 de distorsion, une batterie qui cogne et une basse qui soul\u00e8ve la m\u00e9lodie. De l\u2019autre, des notes de synth\u00e9 bien dos\u00e9es qui cr\u00e9ent cette atmosph\u00e8re particuli\u00e8re. Avec une voix planante pour enrober le tout. Le milieu du morceau s\u2019aventure m\u00eame dans un solo bluesy \u00e0 la Hendrix\u2026 avant de repartir de plus belle vers les sommets du doom classique. C\u2019est s\u00fbr, il y a quelque chose de Tool au royaume du Texan.<\/p>\n<p>Les deux derniers titres sont dans la m\u00eame lign\u00e9e que l\u2019intro de l\u2019album. Dommage, on aurait aim\u00e9 d\u00e9couvrir encore de nouvelles ambiances, surtout que le CD ne compte que 5 titres\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em>The darkness at the edge of dawn<\/em> est une fresque musicale de 38 minutes, avec autant d\u2019ambiances \u00e0 d\u00e9celer. L\u2019album s\u2019\u00e9coute d\u2019une traite ou pas du tout.
