Tout droit issus de Pennsylvanie, ce quatuor de gros rednecks mal d\u00e9fra\u00eechis (dont une charmante bassiste que, par galanterie au moins, on ne fera pas rentrer sous ce qualificatif) propose un disque franchement original. Globalement, le groupe trouve sans peine sa place au sein du catalogue Small Stone : gros riffs qui d\u00e9fouraillent, cordes vocales houblonn\u00e9es, murs de grattes \u00e9hont\u00e9ment satur\u00e9es\u2026 Le canevas de d\u00e9part est bien l\u00e0. On aurait pu s\u2019en tenir l\u00e0 qu\u2019on aurait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 content. Mais Backwoods Payback va plus loin et larve ses titres d\u2019arrangements tout \u00e0 fait surprenants. Prenez l\u2019excellent \u00ab Flight Pony \u00bb, construit sur un riff bien groovy, il part dans le refrain sur des accents qui rappelleront aux initi\u00e9s le hardcore typique de Life Of Agony p\u00e9riode \u00ab River Runs Red \u00bb, idem pour le son de gratte du couplet de \u00ab Knock wood \u00bb ou \u00ab Velcro \u00bb. Bluffant ! Quelques souvenirs du d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re hardcore de Mike Cummings, probablement, subtilement incorpor\u00e9s \u00e0 sa production actuelle. Les titres s\u2019encha\u00eenent et ont tous un petit quelque chose qui les fait rester en m\u00e9moire, ce petit truc que cherchent bon nombre de groupes\u2026 Sur \u00ab Timegrinder \u00bb c\u2019est l\u2019alternance couplet \u00ab thrash metal \u00bb \/ refrain m\u00e9lodique (faut oser) qui am\u00e8ne \u00e0 une fin de morceau de pur doom. Sur \u00ab Parting words \u00bb c\u2019est une seconde moiti\u00e9 du morceau qui l\u2019emm\u00e8ne de touches heavy vers des passages plus ambianc\u00e9s limite doom. Sur \u00ab Lord Chesterfield \u00bb, c\u2019est un refrain bien rentre-dedans qui vient bousculer un couplet lent et groovy. Sur \u00ab Poncho \u00bb c\u2019est un couplet compl\u00e8tement \u00e9trange, d\u00e9cal\u00e9, enivrant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">M\u00eame si le descriptif ci-dessus laisse penser que l\u2019on se trouve devant un combo qui se cherche musicalement, il n\u2019en est rien : le groupe \u00e9volue dans un cadre de gros metal stoner, blind\u00e9 de passages alternant gentiment entre le gros stoner un peu gras, le sludge pas trop crade, et le doom\u2026 Ce disque, qui peut sonner un peu \u00ab r\u00eache \u00bb au premier abord, se r\u00e9v\u00e8le finalement tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant, pour qui garde un esprit ouvert.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Small Stone nous a encore sorti de derri\u00e8re les fagots un combo atypique comme on les aime.
