Ce <em>In the Dawn of November<\/em>, qui sort tr\u00e8s opportun\u00e9ment\u2026 en juin (ah, ces champions du marketing) arrive donc par surprise, et l\u2019on se prend \u00e0 esp\u00e9rer qu\u2019il puisse \u00eatre l\u2019album de la r\u00e9v\u00e9lation\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Les premi\u00e8res \u00e9coutes viennent nous rappeler quel groupe solide est \u00e0 la man\u0153uvre : le trio am\u00e9ricain se complait dans un stoner doom rugueux, dans une veine massive, mais avec une mise en son assez propre (tout est relatif). On reste toutefois assez proches d\u2019influences metal\/stoner metal, comme souvent avec les groupes de cette tendance en provenance des USA : les rythmiques ont beau \u00eatre pesantes et bien appuy\u00e9es, on reste sur du mid-tempo assez ralenti, et on ne verse jamais dans la lenteur absolue. L\u2019apport m\u00e9lodique se veut donc crucial dans l\u2019\u00e9quilibre du groupe, et c\u2019est bien ce trait distinctif qui, m\u00eal\u00e9 \u00e0 la puissance de riffs tr\u00e8s lourds, vient d\u00e9cupler l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat qu\u2019il g\u00e9n\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Les six compos propos\u00e9es sont assez vari\u00e9es pour ne jamais susciter l\u2019ennui ou le sentiment de r\u00e9p\u00e9tition et, fait appr\u00e9ciable, le groupe, s\u2019il ma\u00eetrise les r\u00e8gles d\u2019or du doom, ne s\u2019en retrouve jamais prisonnier : voir par exemple comme il peut d\u00e9velopper le cr\u00e9pusculaire \u00ab I Wanna be Dead \u00bb et son riff lancinant sur plus de douze minutes (un refrain stoner doom d\u2019\u00e9cole) sans jamais tourner en rond, ou bien d\u2019un autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 emballer un \u00ab Sick of your Shit \u00bb au moins aussi accrocheur en moins de cinq minutes \u2013 parce que tout est dit, et que \u00ab faire durer \u00bb serait artificiel. Sans parler du punchy \u00ab Depressive Episode \u00bb, son son de basse glaireux, sa guitare au fuzz baveux, et ses relents de vieux punk crossover.<\/p>\n<p>Pour enrober le tout, deux autres belles pi\u00e8ces de stoner doom assez classiques mais toujours efficaces sont \u00e0 relever\u00a0: le tr\u00e8s accrocheur \u00ab\u00a0Cemetary Blues\u00a0\u00bb vient encore appuyer la capacit\u00e9 du groupe \u00e0 pondre des refrains doom que l\u2019on se prend \u00e0 entonner tr\u00e8s vite \u00e0 l\u2019unisson, tandis que le morceau \u00e9ponyme du disque s\u2019emploie \u00e0 montrer l\u2019ensemble de la palette musicale du groupe\u00a0: m\u00e9lodie omnipr\u00e9sente, rythmiques pachydermiques, leads vibrantes\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em>In the Dawn of November<\/em> est-il donc l\u2019album qui pourrait faire exploser le groupe sur la \u00ab sc\u00e8ne \u00bb stoner doom mondiale ? Qualitativement, la ma\u00eetrise stylistique est l\u00e0, et le savoir-faire du groupe rejaillit dans tous les contours de ses compos : efficace et tr\u00e8s accrocheur, ce disque a ce qu\u2019il faut pour ravir les doomsters de tous horizons, amateurs d\u2019un doom int\u00e8gre, parfois aux limites de l\u2019orthodoxie certes, mais toujours au service du genre. A ce titre, il est dommage de rater ce disque.
